Pointing you in the Right direction based on P.R and Advertising

  Is advertising really Effective?

Yes it is effective but you need to research properly, be able to get your message out there to your potential customers. When you don’t advertise you lose customers. Advertising to the wrong market becomes ineffective as it is important to know your audience. With my understanding advertising is based on you paying for the advert space right? And Public Relations is all about free publicity. But most of the time people confuse the two of being the same thing in which they not.

Advertising is a one way communication with consumers while P.R is more interactive.

Public Relations Vs. Advertising
Let me fill you in on Public Relations and Advertising, because you have paid for the advert to be there you create a control on what goes on the advert. But with Public Relations you have no control over what is published. Once they publish a press release they won’t publish the same thing more than three times. Advertising has more advantage since space is created and paid for. The advert will run for a longer period of time. Advertising gives you a chance to be creative and even create new campaigns.

Advice when starting your Business
Public Relations Practitioners have a nose for news and are able to create a buzz using news. A word of advice when you are a small business that is still new, start with public relations campaigns they will bring you up to speed on alerting the media about your business. Public Relations is affordable but sometimes other products should be left in advertising.
This picture is from www.shutterstock.com which shows us that advertising is a has a great chance in winning consumers.

Public Relations make sure that the public favours the company offerings. The role of advertising is to generate sales and Public Relations generates good will.

  1. I think PR is taking over Advertising, simply because PR uses free publications (social networks) that we don't need to pay for. Whereas in Advertising we need to pay for the space. Plus as a customer am bombarded with many adverts, but if the company has a Facebook page I can just follow them and talk to them directly. And that helps the company in knowing that their message reaches the right audience!

    1. Yes, I agree with what you are saying Public Relations is indeed taking over advertising because us as P.R.P have free excess on whatever we want to publish but we must also remember that not all the products can use P.R some products should be left in advertising.

  2. Advertising is still very much relevant hence we have our social media pages like Facebook and Twitter that sell advertising space. PR and Advertising fall under the Marketing umbrella and so in order to reach a broader market you need to do both I think. They should complement each other for ultimate success in whatever campaign you would be working on.

  3. Don't think Kamohelo you have a great point on saying that advertising and P.R falls under the same umbrella. They work hand in hand.

  4. I think the advertising ship of television and radio is slowly sinking like the titanic ship. its way to expensive and some organisations just don't have the budget and what more better way to just advertise on your social media as its cheap because with social media we have what we call "word of mouse" with just a click of a button your advert has gone viral. I think organisations that don't have the budget should use social media for advertising

  5. Advertising is still important, yes businesses or rather organisations are seeing the opportunity in public relations but bare in mind that if for example they sent a news release to a certain publication that doesn't guarantee that the news release will be published. If the news release s not news worthy or it is in a manner that it advertise a product chances are the journalist wont publish.

    1. Advertising is there for specific products that cant be used on Public Relations, but with P.R you can never go wrong as it will give you a proper platform where you will be able to establish what exactly you want to achieve from your blog

  6. Public Relations has taken the lead as it is more relevant and uses methods that do not require money to be spent like advertising, in these methods message are sent to the recipient through different social media platforms to generate action. I love the blog so informative

    1. Thank you so much Lebogang, oh yes P.R has taken the lead from advertising which shows that advertising is not effective when you don't know how to market your brand.

  9. I believe that advertising is indeed effective depending on the amount of times we are exposed to it but I think public relations is vital whenever the budget is hardly enough for a particular organization...

  10. Yes Gugu that is true, small businesses should consider Public Relations as they will learn a lot from it, compare to Advertising because that requires money.
