5 Steps in studying P.R

My intention is to provide advice to all the students who have decided to study Public Relations and communication and also the ones who are already in the field of P.R.

These are the 5 steps to consider when studying Public Relations http://www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Successful-Public-Relations-Student

1.Know what you are studying

Most of first years signed up to three or even four years of the course, without even knowing what is the course about.  They don’t even have a clear idea of the subjects they will be doing for those years. So tell me do you know what is Public Relations? When you are studying Public Relations it includes theories, models, opinions, public speaking and writing skills.

2 .You will need Experience
You need to be able to market yourself, ask questions and the ones who are already in the field to help you gain some experience. For you to be proactive in Public Relations it is very important as you will open new opportunities for yourself. You can even be a volunteer at a certain company or organisation without getting paid but you will have experience and reference for future purposes.

3  .Watching News and Media

How many of us watch news? Most University students don’t follow the news. But with P.R you always need to be alert on what is going on. Being familiar what happens around you will help you with your studies as well. http://www.citypress.co.za/

4 .P.R social networks

Be active on all types of networks such as Face book, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Blogging. Don’t be shy to share your thoughts, you can even ask questions and participate on conversations. E.g. Start a group for students to join a leader is always needed so why can’t it be you?

5. Reading is Important

You need to be frequent in English and be able to pronounce words in a proper way. When you know how to read you will be able to have good writing skills and be able to interact and communicate with people.

  1. These are very good tips. I must say I was one of those students who thought that news is only for "adults" until I decided to join the ever growing world of PR, with Social Media being part of our lives one needs to participate in most of these Social Networks. In order to understand the trends that are out there!
